What a week! It’s been a crazy week here in the US with the 2020 election and awaiting the results 3 days later. It was my first time voting this year, after becoming a citizen in 2018, and watching this election unfold thus far has left me feeling more anxious than I’d ever thought I’d feel. In efforts to keep things light and get my mind off of the election, I wanted to share a few ways I would style a sweater dress. It’s finally chilly here in Houston and I can bring out my sweaters and sweater dresses! I’ve always been a dress kinda gal. I rather way dresses over jeans any day! So here are few easy ways to dress a plain sweater dress a few different ways, each creating a unique look of its own! The sweater dress is old so I’m linking some similar colors and styles here:
1. Grab a Hat
Hats are a great way to add to your look, especially during the fall. I have this fedora and can easily match it with most of my outfits. If it were to get colder in Houston, I would switch this hat with a beanie and jacket, and I’d be good to go!
2. Add some Leggings or Tights
For a more conservative look, add some leggings under your sweater dress and your boots. I am wearing my favorite spanx leggings that I’ve raved on about for too long LOL (read more here). If you aren’t scared of showing some skin, add some tights for a more chic look!
3. A belt for more structure
I love adding a belt to my outfits to add a little structure to my look. My Gucci belt is great for days I want to dress up my look but also want to be warm!
4. Wear a big chunky scarf
Adding a scarf to your sweater dress works for any type of neckline. A silky scarf or a big chunky scarf like mine is great to wear with sweater dresses!
5. A longline blazer
A longline blazer is another way to dress up your look.
6. Layer with jackets
Layering is always a good idea. I get a lot of use out of this jacket when I’m not in Houston LOL but it’s perfect for colder cities.
7. Vests, Vests, Vests!
So many different types of vests out there – fur vests, long vests, puffer vests! All that can be added on top of your sweater dresses for an added OOMPH.
8. Add a Slip Dress
Sometimes sweater dresses can be too short or maybe you just have long legs – adding a slip dress underneath adds a nice feminine touch while also adding a little length! Also great to do this trick with long sweaters (not sweater dresses) like I did below!
These are just a few ways how I would style a sweater dress! Each of these looks are different and unique and are put together with some staple pieces in your closet! Is there any other way you would style a sweater dress? Which look out of the 8 is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
