A few years ago, we took a weekend trip to Portland, Oregon. It was a chill weekend perfect for those who love the outdoors (you can read more about it here). The last day before we headed back to Houston we decided to take a 40 minute drive outside of Portland to visit the man who lives inside of a Boeing 727! This Airplane Home is definitely a Portland Bucket list item and everything you need to know can be found below!
WHAT IS IT
The Airplane home was put together by former pilot and engineer Bruce Campbell. He still lives in this home to this day and we were super lucky to get tour inside (tours may be cancelled or limited due to COVID). Unlike your traditional home, Bruce has everything you need in his airplane, from a bathroom to canned food – he has it all covered! Bruce makes you put on shoe coverings before walking in and is so very sweet! We even got a picture with him (see below). This was such a unique experience, and definitely Portland bucket list item!
WHERE IS IT
Located 40 minutes outside of Portland, deep in the middle of the woods you can find this Airplane Home. We got lucky and he happened to be there along with one other couple but it is recommended to notify with him via email (you can find that on his website here). We went around 10 am and were able to walk around, admire the plane and get some cool drone footage!
Also note, we had hired a car for our trip to Portland and the Airplane home cannot be accessed via public transportation. We entered “Airplane Home” into Google Maps and the destination will take you directly to it in Hillsboro, Oregon. Once you go into the woods, you will see a few parking spots off the dirt road or you can drive up on the side road (you will see his old car). You will see a sign that says “ConcertOnAWing.Com” and you will be close!
Overall visiting Bruce’s Airplane Home was so freaking cool and unique. We were able to walk on the wing, take pictures, and were lucky enough to get a tour inside! If you are ever in Portland and looking for a bucket list spot to check out – I highly recommend checking out this Airplane Home!
